Creative & Heritage Innovation Challenge

Workshop: Wednesday 15th March 2023, 2-5pm, Central Oxford

We’re bringing together experts from the creative and heritage industries to tell us what challenges they face in their work and connecting them with our researchers to see if we can find some digital humanities solutions to real world problems. We want to understand the challenges faced, to propose some solutions based on our research expertise, and to generate interest in developing these solutions further with technical partners.

Aim

The aim of our workshop is to discover real world challenges facing colleagues working in the creative and heritage industries. These could be from any area of your work. It may include your collections, creatives, content, conservation methods, or analysing your audience data – but it could be something else entirely. Help us discover new areas of research in the humanities!

These challenges will then be given to researchers to try and find solutions – based on their research in the humanities, and with the aid of some research software engineers.

The showcase event is a chance to connect with researchers who have been working on the challenges you set them, and to meet selected technical partners we work with at Oxford. We hope that bringing everyone together will generate interest in building prototypes of some of the solutions, and generating further interest in solving more challenges.

Your contribution

We want your problems. We’d like to hear your thoughts, your challenges and your ideas, so we can direct our researchers to problems that need solving, and generate new areas of research and enquiry.

This will be in an informal workshop – we don’t expect formal presentations from you, or any work to be prepared beforehand. If you’d like to bring pictures of your site, collections, creative works, or data, this may be useful. Partners will retain copyright and ownership of any assets shared with us.

Our contribution

We are able to pay for travel costs to Oxford for both events, and will provide lunch on the day of the workshop. We may be able to pay for overnight accommodation if you are travelling far – just email us to ask

Next steps

Participating in this event is, we hope, the first step in a working relationship with you. This may lead to prototypes or proofs of concepts to your challenges, or even the development of research project ideas which can be submitted for Oxford or national funding schemes.
