A new existence forged from the fragments of old shapes: AI in the Arts and Humanities

Speaker: Prof. David De Roure

What is the role of AI and Machine Learning in the arts and humanities research, and what is the role of arts and humanities in AI and Machine Learning? Prof David De Roure, the Academic Director of Digital Scholarship @ Oxford (DiSc), is a longstanding AI practitioner specialising in AI and Music. His talk will discuss what's new, what isn't, and whether the AI is a mimic or a muse of human creativity - supported by music clips from his collaborations at the Alan Turing Institute and the Centre for Practice and Research in Science Music (PRiSM) at the Royal Northern College of Music. Our DiSc lecture is open to colleagues from across the University and will provide a soundtrack of classical, jazz and hip-hop to close Thursday at the Summer School.
